Uruguay Perdiz
This sporty little gamer is just a bit bigger than a quail, but does not covey, although numerous Perdiz can be found in the same field. A one hundred acre “hot” field can contain more than a hundred birds, producing flushes every two or three minutes.
Hunting Perdiz in Uruguay over pointing dogs is the customary method for this type of Uruguay bird hunting. Depending on the conditions of the wind, the type of field, and the physical condition of the hunter, one may hunt behind a fast, medium, or very deliberate dog. Fast dogs like English Setters are especially exciting to watch. They can carve up a field in no time, going on point every minute or two, and challenging the shooters who are in anything less than good shape to keep up. English pointers and German Shorthairs work at a more steady pace, with numerous fits and starts depending on how the Perdiz are working, and the sometimes lazy, but always graceful Brittany does with ease what other pointing dogs seem to work so hard for…and that is finding birds.

Duck Hunting in Uruguay
One will swear the minute that they step inside the blind that Uruguay duck hunts remind them of waterfowl hunting in Louisiana’s rice country, or in eastern Arkansas. Flooded rice fields are the norm, and the skies are literally black with birds of all types, from horizon to horizon. One will see shorebirds and wildfowl that one never knew existed. The word Uruguay is actually an ancient Indian phrase that literally means “River of the Painted Birds”, and that is the perfect way to describe the birds here in Uruguay.
On the other hand, the difference between the ducks in Louisiana and Uruguay are distinct. Sure, there are pintails, teal, and widgeon in Uruguay, but they differ somewhat in size, and drastically in color, and then there are other species of ducks that are related distantly, but the resemblance is vague. For example, the Rosybilled Pochard is a diving duck distantly related to the Canvasback. What is even more strange is that the Pochard hen closely resembles the drake Can…if it all sounds confusing you should just plan a duck hunting trip in Uruguay and come experience it for yourself, and you will never look at a pintail or widgeon the same way again.
